Not all SATA cards built the same. Sort of reminds me of the way the tape vendors talk up the 2: The drives are already big enough and fast enough. I just meant the lame part was the way the card's speed was being presented by their marketing.

We test with chassis from many vendors. Related products and accessories: Just as their response indicates, they're using 10 drive and 20 drive systems, essentially cabinets with multipliers on each SATA input.

The protocol is theoretically limited to 3Gbps. What kind of enclosure are you using to aggregate the 4 eSATA connections?

Right Gear to Digital Darkroom Being a photographer, loading or searching through thousands of pictures via USB or Fasta--4e interface may not be practical or efficient.

I won't mention the RAID chassis vendor name since we're no longer on good terms with them: SATA 3G is the alternative solution for editors and studios that do no require sharing the same content in the same storage pool but need high performance and data integrity.

Pretty lame, yes, but some people use the card or others like it to multi-drive arrays in a RAID No complicated cabling needed. It allows you to connect up to 4 external S2VR with up to 20 drives and with 3Gbps bandwidth for each port for the fastest data transfer. For editors that need to share the same content data in the same storage pool, Fibre Channel is a good choice.

Regardless, the result is fantastic, sustained performance for ingest and editing. In another thread http: Yes, the H seems like a great deal compared to this, with twice as many ports in one slot through fanouts. This is the most affordable solution for video editors who work in a small to mid sized studio with a budget.

There's no need to confuse the users with non-applicable numbers.

So to get the fastest connection when two or more separate non-RAID drives are connected is this the best card? Or is there a better one? It provides affordable pricing, high performance data transfer rate, expandable and friendly configuration. By aggregating the 4 3Gb ports, you effectively provide the potential for 1. They have sent me this card to sample, but I currently don't have access to any fast eSATA storage to test.

I wasn't sure how the 4e card is different or better. It is dedicated to video editors that require high performance and reliability. Although this could be a super cheap way to have a large and fast RAID 0 if a person didn't care about redundancy.

So, considering the card is EOL and not available anymore except through used channels for the most part -- I actually have one or two of those old FASTA-4ex cards around here somewhere -- I would think we could round up something better for not much [more] money.

What Caldigit told me is the 4e uses a different chip, which is just all-around better and more expensive.

That's very clever marketing they have. If you read the "fine print", it's a composite of all 4 ports. The H has 2 "ports" and 8 "channels".

So it's as I suspected: This is more cost- and time-effective solution for digital image processing. I forgot tom mention, don't mix up "ports" with "channels".
